Time for a writing update! On Saturday morning, I

Time for a writing update! On Saturday morning, I was at the point where I was about 30,000-35,000 words from the end of this second draft of the Christmas book. It was great to be so far in, but everything left was a big old jumble in my head.

So, I spent a few hours getting down all my ideas, and then arranging them on cut up post-it notes so that they resembled something story-like.

When you move a scene, it has a knock-on effect. It can change character development, relationships, even the weather! So whilst it was icky and squirmy, getting knee deep in the mess to be able to organise it was what I needed to do to keep moving forward. I wrote another 6,000 words after that, so I'm now on the approach to 65,000 🙌

Here's a photo of me from Friday when I didn't feel frazzled and want to crawl into a duvet den with 'You've got Mail' and a bucket of crisp-shaped snacks. It's possible writing 8000+ words in one weekend has rendered my brain useless for the rest of the week.

Well I don't know about you, but I have had the *loveliest* weekend 😊 I edited/wrote 8,304 words for the Christmas book, watched a lot of Gilmore Girls, had a phone call with one of my best friends, decorated for Christmas, went for a walk, had my first mince pie of the season, and played Throw Throw Burrito. I might now need the week off work to recover from all the fun 🌚

Today has been a challenging writing day. I've got a decent amount of words down, including two new scenes, but I'm only happy with *some* of the words. I'm not sure whether the other ones really offer anything worthwhile, so they may well get scrapped. Some days are great, and I think I can do it. Other days, like today, are full of self-doubt. But, tomorrow is a new day. I'm planning to move some things around, as I think my main character and her love interest need more time together earlier in the story. Hopefully, once I've done that, things will look better 🤞

A few snaps from Luke's birthday weekend 🎉🎁 Highlights included going for a bike ride, eating a LOT of tasty vegan food, watching Marvel films on the sofa with a duvet, Luke's face when opening his presents, and catching up with family. Oh, and Joe Biden winning the US election! Highlights did not include me falling off my bike and rendering both hands and one knee pretty useless, and Luke being told he has to self isolate because he's come into contact with someone who tested positive at work. It'll certainly be a birthday to remember! 🙈♥️
