Sometimes people tell me they don’t like water, or they only drink water if they’re at the gym, and it breaks my heart a little. I’m not going to sit here and bang on about the many many reasons why staying hydrated is so important, because you probably didn’t click on this link for a lecture. But what I will say, is that you should be drinking around 6-8 glasses of water per day. More than that if you lead an active lifestyle and sweat a lot. Or if you’re just a naturally sweaty person. I ain’t judgin’.
If you’re not water’s biggest fan, of it you get bored of water, try infusing it with some fruit. You can get flavoured water from supermarkets, but they tend to be full of extra sugar that you don’t need – just something to be aware of.
I made up a big batch of blueberry and mint water whilst we were on holiday in Mallorca. It’s refreshing, really easy to make, and you can fill up a jug and put it in the fridge so that it’s ready to go as and when you fancy it. Also, you can pretend you’re drinking cocktails. Which is always fun if you ask me.
I didn’t use specific quantities for this recipe (is this even worthy of being called a recipe? I don’t know, but we’ve started now so we may as well carry on). Here’s what I used to make this refreshing beverage:
- A jug of water
- A load of ice*
- Half a punnet of blueberries
- A fistful of mint
- Two limes sliced up
*probably not important if you live in England. See what the weather’s doing.
There are so many fruit-infused water combinations you can try, but this one is one of my favourites.
