Recently I’ve been pondering how I can best help during these uncertain times. I consider two of my strengths to be writing and my positive mindset, and it occurred to me the other day that I can use both of these to bring you a little splash of joy every week. We could all use a bit of a boost sometimes, and if I can provide that for you, I’m all for it.
One of the positive things I implemented for our virtual office is a weekly newsletter that goes out to the department every Friday morning full of uplifting content (it’s called Fri-Yay News, and pulling it together along with my two work besties is the highlight of my week).
It’s been really well received, and it got me thinking – why not do something similar for the blog? That way, I can spread a bit of happiness to those of you who don’t work in the same department as me.
So, allow me to introduce you to the Feel-good Friday List! I’ll be sharing things that have made me feel good that week, whether it’s songs I’ve been dancing to, positive news stories I’ve seen, recipes I’ve loved, films that have made me cackle with laughter, books I’ve read, you get the picture.
And so, without further ado, here’s the first Feel-good Friday List…
Songs I’ve been dancing to
I’ve been dancing every single day for the past few weeks. It helps me to relieve a bit of anxiety, and I always feel good after a kitchen disco. This week my favourite tracks to dance to have been Lady Gaga’s Stupid Love, Pink’s Can We Pretend, and Walk the Moon’s Shut Up and Dance. I highly recommend them all for a good old boogie.
Podcast I’ve listened to
I love a podcast when I’m running, gardening, or standing in the Tesco car park queue. This week I listened to Elizabeth Day’s How to Fail with Mo Gawdat. It’s a very soothing, very comforting reminder that we will get through this.
Way I moved my body
I downloaded the Fiit app this week and took a pilates class with Lottie Murphy. It. was. lovely. I’m usually more of a cardio/circuits/HIIT workout kinda gal, but it was a refreshing change to slow things down and focus on my breath for 40 minutes. Lottie has free pilates videos on her YouTube channel, which you can check out.
TV show I’ve watched
I bloody love Grand Designs. I love seeing people get creative, and I love Kevin. Sometimes it’s stressful – people run out of money, get divorced or get a life-threatening illness, but the episode we watched this week was really lovely. It’s in Scotland, and Kevin goes to see Colin and Marta’s metal home, inspired by aircraft hangers. You can watch it here.
News stories I’ve read
Here are some links to some lovely, positive news stories I’ve read this week:
- Snorkeling grandmas spend retirement uncovering large sea snake population.
- UC Berkeley opens up it’s popular ‘Science of Happiness’ course online.
- Hospitals are empowering recovered COVID patients by playing iconic ‘Rocky’ theme as they are discharged.
- For the first time in 240 years, white-tailed eagles are spotted flying over England.
- This therapy ‘Dogtor’ is delivering thousands of ‘Hero Healing Kits’ to hospital workers on the frontlines.
