A few things that have been making me happy lately

It’s been a while since I wrote a feel-good Friday list – not because I haven’t been feeling good, just because I always seem to get really busy on Thursdays and Fridays when the time comes to write the list. So, I thought I’d do a little round-up today, to catch up on some of the things that have been making me happy lately!

Pretending I’m working from a coffee shop
We recently swapped some rooms around upstairs in our house, and it means I now have my own writing room that I enjoy spending time in. I do all of my work in there, and I love it. I grab a coffee (usually decaf – I’ve got next-to-no tolerance for caffeine. Even a Lemsip can make my eye twitch), and I put on a Coffee Shop Jazz playlist while I do my work. Luke sometimes comes to see me, and he says he feels like he’s stepped back in time to a 1950s cafe.

Watching The High Note
The High Note is a 2020 film staring Dakota Johnson (my hair inspiration), Tracee Ellis Ross and Kelvin Harrison Jr. Set in Los Angeles, the film follows the story of Maggie, an aspiring music producer and overworked personal assistant to legendary singer Grace Davis, who’s voice is as spectacular as her ego. It’s a very easy watch with an amazing soundtrack that I’ve been listening to on repeat ever since.

Making homemade pizza
Somehow, I’ve reached the age of 32 having never made pizza dough from scratch. I thought it was going to be a bit of a faff, but Luke and I made it together one Saturday night and it wasn’t half as complicated as I was expecting it to be. Not only was it easier than I was expecting, it was also tasty! I’d bought a frozen pizza as back-up, and I’m pleased to share it stayed in the freezer. I added some passata and a load of veggies, vegan cheese, and pineapple. Don’t tell me pineapple doesn’t belong on a pizza. It does.

Supporting one of my favourite eateries
One of my and Luke’s favourite places to go for food is the Lounges. We’re lucky enough to have three near us, and one just a little further away. They have designated vegan and gluten free menus, quirky interiors, and friendly staff. They reopened for takeaway recently, so we ordered a couple of beyond cheese burgers with fries, some ginger beer and a rose lemonade. I was a bit worried about going and collecting it, but it was absolutely fine. There was hand gel for customers to use, and they’d really thought about the flow of customers to make sure nobody went near each other.

Enjoying some upbeat music while I cook
I haven’t been dancing lately as I aggravated an old ankle injury and have had to rest it. But, I’ve still been enjoying some awesome songs while I’ve been cooking. Put these bangers on for an instant mood lift:
